
Michael Coleman Duddy, AIA, Principal
Michael Duddy enjoys over 25 years of dedicated participation in the architectural
profession with experience over a range of building types, new and restored,
including a focus on large mixed-use projects both in the US and abroad.
Prior to becoming a partner in MDA designgroup 2003, a NYC-based design
studio that focus on a wide range of project types, Mr. Duddy had years
of experience working in large firms in New York and New Haven. After
completing his studies at the Yale School of Architecture, Michael joined
the firm of Cesar Pelli and Associates as on architectural designer, and
subsequently worked at Fox & Fowle for the Foley Square Federal Building,
and Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum (HOK). During his eight years at HOK,
he led the design team in conceptualizing the transformation of the James
Farley Post Office in New York into the new Pennsylvania Station. In 1997
began to practice as Michael Duddy Architects P.C and in 2001 co-founded
Designgroup International LLC which continues to practice architecture
in Shanghai, China.
In 2003, Michael Duddy partnered with Elisabeth Martin to form MDA designgroup,
the New York City based partner of Designgroup International, to capitalize
on their combined strength in the design and planning of mixed-use commercial,
residential, and educational projects. Mr. Duddy leads the mixed-use commercial
studio at MDA designgroup through all phases of the design process to
assure that the project meets the highest standards of quality and innovation
within the parameters set by the client.
Mr. Duddy holds a Master of Architecture from Yale University School of
Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts from New York University. Mr. Duddy
maintains on active interest in architectural academics and education.
MDA designgroup is on active supporter of the Center for Architecture
Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that supports architectural
education programs at primary and secondary school of New York City, and
scholarship funds for students enrolled in architecture-related research
and study in New York State. In addition he is currently working on a
book that explores the relationship between architecture and the epistemology
of rational knowledge.
