Riverside Residence 2006
New York, NY
This 1600 square foot apartment seemed cavernous at first. Twelve years later, with the addition of two young children, two professional home offices, and a large book collection, the owner’s once large space seemed cramped. The renovation required clean modern lines and built-in storage in each room to enhance function and the sense of space. The palette of materials, fabrics and details coordinate with the owner’s Shaker furnishing collection. The continuous built-in storage serves to provide convenient access to items and simultaneously shield them from view. A double-sided freestanding dining buffet/office credenza separates the dining room and office functions, allowing the owner easy interaction with her young children as she works. The children’s room and the second study are now in reversed positions, giving the children space for work and play within their bedroom. The result is the look + feel of a much larger home without the addition of any actual space.
