New
Canaan Library, 2006
New Canaan, CT
The New Canaan Library, ranked Connecticut’s busiest library, provides
a growing spectrum of resources, services, and programs to local residents.
Brimming with users of all ages, it exemplifies today’s expanded library
role as a “Town Common” or center of programs, activities, and local services.
MDA’s plan for the 35,000 square foot renewal supports contemporary library
service with a Welcome Zone, an Information Commons, a Living Room, an improved
Teen Zone, and improved collection display and seating in the existing space.
It also integrates an Internet Café and drive up return within two minimal
additions. These changes address functional needs while addressing design
goals for a welcoming civic presence and sense of place.
